My name is Paris Smith and I am a sophomore at Texas Christian University studying Communications and Business. Since I was old enough to hold my first iPhone, I have been fascinated by how technology works. There are several areas in communication, business and technology I want to investigate. The possibilities are unlimited and changing as fast as the next iPhone or SpaceX rocket.

When I began teaching students how to code during high school, I realized there are many schools and communities that struggle to obtain resources to provide students with access to STEM programs. So, I began with my all-girls school by forming a club called STEAMERS that focused on coding, robotics, architecture and engineering projects, and featured female innovators. Girls have made strides in STEM fields, but the gender gap remains high and there is still work to be done. I have joined two TCU STEM clubs to promote gender equality.
As a mentor for a non-profit organization that teaches kids how to code for other non-profit organizations, I soon realized underserved communities severely lacked the most basic resources. Again, I took action and created a website called CODExCARE.org. CODE with CARE, Compassion, Action, Respect, and Equality, strives to build an accessible computer science community for everyone with the purpose of service. Check it out and spread the word. Free coding resources for anyone who wants to learn the language that will power the future.

During my spare time, I enjoy playing golf, tennis, skiing, and snowboarding. One of my future goals is to become a better photographer. However, my big goal is to become a successful business owner and develop a technology that will help build a better tomorrow. Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Sally Ride, Sonika Manandhar, and Joy Buolamwini are just a few groundbreaking figures that inspire me. Who are yours?

Steve Jobs once said, “Sometimes life is going to hit you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith.” I hope my blog encourages readers that it’s ok to stumble and fall, as long as we don’t give up. Please follow me so we can discover a few of the unlimited possibilities in technology and hit the discussion boards with your ideas on ways to build a better tomorrow. Your only limitation is your imagination.
